Born in Hohote, Inner Mongol province, PRC, Bai Lan was selected to attend the National Ballet school of China at the age of 11. She became an International Principle Dancer and danced professionally for 22 years. In that time, she received awards at the International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria in 1986, and awards at the first Chinese Ballet Competition in 1985. Upon immigrating to the USA in 1988, Bai Lan performed with several different American companies.
Bai Lan has years of Classical Ballet performance experience, along with all the training and teaching methodology. In addition, she has been highly trained and certified in Pilates, Masterstretch, Body Key, Core-Align, and a variety of other fitness techniques designed to strengthen, tone, align and rehabilitate the human body. She continues her education at seminars around the country. She has successfully rehabilitated many clients with varying issues after injuries and surgeries. After many years of teaching and training clients, she is still enthusiastic about her work and looking forward to her next new adventure.
Cheryl Cavert began her ballet education, after years of gymnastics training, at age 14 with Moscelyne Larkin and Roman Jasinski of the Tulsa School of Ballet. She has continued her studies over years with Miss Larkin, her son Roman L. Jasinski, Anthony Manescau, and Bai Lan , as well as classes with Soili Arvola, Matthew Bridwell, David Holmes, and whenever visiting a son in Honolulu, classes at Hawaii State Ballet with John Landovsky. Cheryl has performed with Tulsa Civic Ballet, Tulsa Ballet Theatre, and Leap of Faith Dance Ensemble, as well as teaching in the dance program at Central High School and for the last 10+years at BaiLan Studio. She is also certified in Paddlefit Core and teaches stand-up paddle boarding for SUPOKlahoma.
Lexie Jo Sweeney was born and raised in Airzona. She is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and creative artist. She received her BA in dance performance with a minor in art with high honors, summa Cum Laude in May 2014 from Oral Roberts University. Since then, she remains in residence in Tulsa. She utilizes her degree and passion for dance by choreographing small dance work. Often collaborating with other artists, filmmakers and creatives. "There is nothing more fulfilling than creating art for the enjoyment of others to see again and again," She says. Lexie Jo is trained in and practices Laban Bartenieff modern movement technique. She has influences of Graham, Limon and Cunningham, techniques. She has performed with local dance companies, has been a presenting artist in the Exchange Choreography festival for multiple years and has served on the board of the Oklahoma dance film Festival (OKDFF). she is currently dancing with Oklahoma Movement. Sweeney has taught at several dance schools in the Tulsa area in including Tulsa Ballet, Encore Ballet Conservatory, The Dance Academy, Jasinski Academy and South Tulsa Dance Company. She is exited to bring her skills, knowledge and passion for dance to her students here at Bai Lan studio.
Kim Downing received her certification from the Physical Mind Institute in 2010 and has been a lifelong student of ballet. Kim is a former figure skater and also served as a judge for the US Figure Skating Association. Kim loves yoga, dancing, and outdoor sports and is currently a Pilates Mat Instructor at Bai Lan Studio.
