About Bai Lan Studio

Bai Lan, Owner & Founder
Certified Pilates Instructor, Professional Ballet Instructor
Born in Hohote, Nel Mongol province, PRC, Bai Lan was selected to attend the National Ballet school of China at the age of 11. She became an International Principle Dancer and danced professionally for 22 years. In that time, she received awards at the International Ballet competition in Varna, Bulgaria in 1986, and awards at the first Chinese Ballet Competition in 1985. Upon immigrating to the USA in 1988, Bai Lan performed with several different American companies.  Bai Lan has years of Classical Ballet performance experience, along with all the training and teaching methodology. In addition, she has been highly trained and certified in Pilates, Masterstretch, Elvis, and a variety of other fitness techniques designed to strengthen, tone, align, and rehabilitate the human body. She continues her education at seminars around the country.  She has successfully rehabilitated many clients with varying issues after injuries and surgeries.  After many years of teaching and training clients, she is still enthusiastic about her work and looking forward to her next new adventure. 

 
Kaitlin Parks, Ballet, Creative Movement and Choreography Instructor
Kaitlin Parks began her ballet training with Yu, Leidi in Tulsa, OK. Summer study took her to the National Ballet School in Toronto Canada, Boston Ballet, and the Kirov Academy in Washington DC. After attending Idyllwild Arts Academy for high school she found a home at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance under the direction of Summer Lee Rhatigan. She became an Emergency Medical Technician in 2008 and joined the ranks of the San Francisco Fire Department in 2013. She has performed in works by Jiri Kylian, Ohad Naharin, William Forsythe, Christian Burns, soloist roles in Swan Lake and Nutcracker as well as other classical roles and contemporary works professionally. She has over ten years of experience in teaching and has worked with all ages and experience levels including students with special needs. In developing the children's program at SFC Studios she cultivated techniques in educating children 3-12 in ballet, creative movement and choreography. As she enters medical school this year she faces new challenges balancing her love of teaching, collaborating with  www.overseasoutlanders.org and studying. Her beginning ballet for young children balances a playful and creative introduction to dance with high expectations and quality education.

 
Cheryl Cavert, Ballet Instructor (Adult Beginning/Intermediate)
Born in Tulsa, Cheryl Cavert studied classical ballet with Roman Jasinski and  Mosceylne Larkin, Roman L.  jasinski, Anthony Manescau, and Bai Lan. She danced with the Tulsa Civic Ballet, Tulsa Ballet, and Leap of Faith Dance Ensemble where she also choreographed and directed. Additionally, she was involved in dance choreography for various programs at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Currently teaching at Bai Lan Studio, Cheryl has also taught ballet at Central High School Fine Arts Academy as well as substituted at Cherry Street Studio and Jasinski Academy. And now she is excited to offer Core Barre - the Art of Smart Movement at BaiLan studio.

 
Kim Downing, Pilates Mat Instructor
Kim Downing received her certification from the Physical Mind Institute in 2010, and has been a lifelong student of ballet. Kim is a former figure skater and also served as a judge for the US Figure Skating Association. Kim loves yoga, dancing and outdoor sports and is currently a Pilates Mat Instructor at Bai Lan Studio.
